Pathway to Heroin

STUDY:  Nonmedical prescription opioids and pathways of drug involvement in the US: Generational differences.      PDF form

The graph and report reflect no matter which generation heroin addiction does not begin by using heroin but other drugs.  The three  drugs that "prime" the brain and often lead to harder drugs are cigarettes, alcohol and marijuana.  We need prevention funding to help educate our children, parents and community leaders develop the skills and strategies to avoid drug abuse.   ADDICTION IS A PREVENTABLE DISEASE.

Hillsborough County Mentor Program

Welcome to the foundation of Mentors for Hillsborough County Veterans (MHCV). We are veterans who are dedicated to the men and women in Tampa Bay's Veterans Treatment Court (VTC).

Why We Do What We Do:
Driven by the U.S. military values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and moral courage, the volunteer mentors are Tampa Bay’s unsung heroes whose daily actions positively impact the well being of its local veterans and our community. They continue to pay it forward without any expectation of compensation or recognition. In fact, their “reward” is in the grateful acknowledgment from those veterans and their families and their well-being. The volunteer veteran mentors are the “quiet warriors” who will not rest until every veteran in trouble with the law is provided the needed resources to get well again and successfully reintegrate into our community.

Federally Qualified Health Centers

There is no lack of information on Federally Qualified Health Centers. However, what's out there is a hodgepodge of confusing, sometimes conflicting information that often leaves more questions than answers. We have endeavored to point you in the right direction to answer your questions, and we've included links to trusted resources to supplement the information on our site.
If you would like to locate a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), HRSA (the Health Resources and Service Administration) has a health center locator tool where you can search for a health center by address, state, or county.

FQHCs are in most cities and many rural areas. They will help you, even if you have no health insurance. You pay what you can afford, based on your income.

Doug Walker, Trauma Sensitive Ministry presenter @ Innovation 2019, shared, "Most ministries seek to comfort those who are in distress, help those less fortune, and desire to alleviate suffering where they can. But, in doing so, perhaps they have not even considered those quietly suffering in their churches and communities due to the present difficulties resulting from past traumatic experiences? How might the church minister more effectively to these individuals? The answer is to become trauma- informed. So, what is “trauma-informed ministry,” and does it have a place in your church and community?"
